Cami Lundeen
Saturday, May 25th, 8-10pm

Born in California, but raised across the United States, Cami has a vast array of life experience that permeates her music. Along with her brother and sister, Cami was raised by a father who started churches and a stay at home mother. They lived in several states during her childhood. Singing was always a childhood love and talent, but she did not start playing the guitar until her freshman year of college.

She spent some time teaching herself how to play, but soon put her guitar down due to getting married and starting a family. In the spring of 2010, Cami had the opportunity to once again pick up her guitar. She began leading music at her church. After a year of leading a band and delving into self-study, she began writing songs of her own.

This gift of writing came at a very crucial time in her life.

After giving birth to her fourth child, she was diagnosed witha rare liver disease, which she battled in addition to a previously diagnosed autoimmune disorder. She soon desired to use this gift to touch the souls others.

As she continued to write, she began performing live shows in the spring of 2012, including -festivals, house concerts, recurring venue gigs, and benefit events.

Cami Lundeen just finished the process of recording her debut album, connecting her music with fans and fellow artists, and seeking further opportunities to express one of the deepest loves of her heart and soul.

This is an all-ages free cover show brought to you by Vashon Events and Nirvana.

CAMI'S MUSIC

The Staxx Brothers
Saturday, June 8, 9PM

The Staxx Brothers are a high energy American band, hailing from Seattle, Washington, that has spent the last seven years crafting an incredible new sound they've branded Hard Ass Soul. It's quite simply the most danceable and hip shaking brand of rock & roll to hit US streets since Motown left Detroit. Where modern Rock most often has forgotten its Roll, The Staxx Brothers make it back to the juke joint, and take you back to the black church, dragging modern rock by its collar right back to its birthright - with an epic flare that matches any of the classics.

"Staxx Brothers proved the closest thing to vintage Funkadelic I've ever witnessed, right down to the janky thrift store costumes and impolite wilding. A huge mob on stage, they've imbibed whatever elixir Bootsy, George and Bernie swallowed back in the day, getting up there and proudly playing rump rattlin' cartoons and then backing it up with whomping good musicianship and tunes you gotta be dead to resist... Festival planners: Book these guys! You will not be sorry."
- Dennis Cook - Jambase.com

SIDESTREET RENY
SHOW CANCELLED DUE TO CAR TROUBLE
WE HOPE TO RESCHEDULE SOON

Friday, May 10th, 9-11pm
Free cover

In the third installment of a Vashon Events music production at Vashon’s hottest new music venue, NIRVANA, we bring to the Vashon community an amazing duo from Portland, OR.

Reny and Bell blend bluesy/funky finger-style and slide guitar, original poignant songwriting and solid straight forward grooves. Drawing mostly from pre-war blues, roots and folk music with a little old school rap and dancehall reggae. SSR manages to forge their own sound and push musical boundaries in an era when many other musicians strive to sound the same.

Reny has recording everything from folk rock and hip hop to reggae and of course the blues at various stages of his 20+ year career, with the last 12 years spent cultivating that SSR sound... an original eclectic gumbo where delta blues is the main ingredient and touches of the Caribbean and the words of the streets are the spices that complete this rootsy stew. Always weary of the traditions he represents, SSR navigates the modern musical landscape with a deep love for all that has come before, while still staying creative and vital, and constantly striving to make proud those who created that very framework on which his music is built.

Reny has lead the kind of life that deserves to be written about... and that he does, with an honest poetic voice and passionate conviction. From songs about love and hate to art and social commentary to free-form rap lyrics ranging from boastful to political, Sidestreet Reny is truly a troubadour without confines.

Nirvana opens its doors to the community and offers a wonderful selection of menu items and beverages to go along with this rare opportunity to enjoy a free blues show.

Dancing @ Nirvana!
Saturday, March 2, 9PM

Back by popular demand, dancing at Nirvana with DJ Cotton Candy spinning Top 40, Hip Hop and Funk from 9PM until 12AM.

DJ Cotton Candy, aka Donna Pluta from Seattle, has been music obsessed since the first day that MTV was available on her cable listings in her hometown of Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Donna’s parents and her big brothers had a pretty great vinyl collection with everything from Santana to Van Halen to XTC. Her brother Tony, a.k.a. Cricket, was a DJ at the local college radio station; and Tommy played drums, and then bass, in The Sighs who signed to a major label and recorded three albums.

As a dancer taking class since the age of 3, Donna gravitated towards hip hop and then electronic music and the parties where people danced all night into the morning.

Always wanting to create, Donna was making mix-tapes galore and the obvious next step was to learn to DJ.

Encouraged by a great community of artists and friends in Portland, Oregon, she put the needle on the record and never looked back. Now living in Seattle, where the music scene is legendary, she is still committed finding music that inspires her every day and sharing that with as many people as possible.

DJ Cotton Candy hosts a dance party called Candylandia at The Benbow Room in West Seattle on the 2nd Saturday of each month.
